Disability is the norm in our environment. Something sorely missed when discharged from the Spinal Unit. I myself am a tetraplegic now although when I was at the Spinal Unit I was standing and transferring on one leg paraplegic. A degenerative disease caused through multiple spinal cord surgeries has seen me since losing my remainder leg, my trunk and recently my arms have started being impacted on.
My 34-year-old son, who lives here with me, is a high functioning intellectually impaired young man so abnormal is normal to us.
Costs are related to whether requirements are short or medium term, how many people are to be housed and if they are funded or private clients, however a standard one night stay for two people is around the $105 mark.
